“I’m Coming for You!” – Miguna Miguna Lands Explosive Citizen TV Interview to Tear into Matiang’i’s ‘Lies’
Outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna is gearing up for what promises to be a fiery interview with Citizen TV, after the media outlet approved his written request.
On Wednesday, July 2, Miguna asked the top brass at Citizen TV to sit down with him, especially in light of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s recent interview on the same channel.
According to Miguna, the former influential CS, who has just revealed his ambition to run for president in the 2027 General Election, wasn’t grilled enough about the controversies during his time in government from 2013 to 2022.
“Because Citizen TV gave Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i an exclusive platform to lie about all the atrocities he presided over between 2013 and 2022 with hardly any significant challenges by Sam Gituku, I request an opportunity for an exclusive interview as a rejoinder because I was one of his victims,” Miguna stated.
The lawyer mentioned that he would much rather have the interview conducted live, albeit remotely, since he’s currently located in Ontario, Canada.
A few hours later, Miguna shared a message from Linus Kaikai, the Head of the Editorial Department at Royal Media Services (RMS), which owns Citizen TV. The message confirmed that his request had been approved and that the interview would take place within the next week.
“Wachira (Waruru—Managing Director at RMS) and I have received your request for an interview on Citizen TV. We are delighted to confirm that you will be availed the interview opportunity within the next 7 days. See you live on Citizen TV!” the message read.

The conflict between Miguna and Matiang’i traces back to Miguna’s deportation from Kenya in 2018, which was ordered by Matiang’i himself. The spark for this drama was Miguna’s significant involvement in the symbolic “swearing-in” of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the “People’s President” at Uhuru Park, where Miguna took on the role of administering the oath.
This event took place on January 30, 2018, in the wake of the contentious 2017 presidential election, where Raila was defeated by Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Jubilee government, under President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto, saw this act as treasonous and a blatant challenge to their authority. They quickly moved to crack down on everyone involved.
On February 2, 2018, Miguna was arrested and held incommunicado for several days, facing accusations of treason for his participation in the ceremony.
During this chaotic period, Matiang’i claimed that Miguna was not a Kenyan citizen. The government argued that he had lost his citizenship when he obtained Canadian citizenship in 1988, as the old constitution didn’t allow for dual citizenship, and that he hadn’t properly re-registered his Kenyan citizenship after the 2010 Constitution was enacted.

Miguna strongly refuted these claims, asserting that he was a Kenyan citizen by birth and had never renounced his citizenship. He maintained that the government’s actions were illegal and politically motivated to silence him.
Despite multiple court orders demanding his release and appearance in court, Miguna was forcibly deported to Canada in February 2018. Reports suggested he was drugged and hurriedly put on a plane.
He later tried to return in March 2018 but encountered another dramatic situation at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), where he was detained for several days before being forcibly deported again, this time to Dubai
