Hope or Hype? Ruto Returns to Rally with Floods of New Promises for Kenyans
President William Ruto has rekindled his signature style of making sweeping promises during his recent tours across Kenya.
Traversing from Nakuru to Tharaka Nithi and down to the Coast, President Ruto has left a trail of commitments aimed at addressing various local issues.
However, the pressing question on many Kenyans’ minds is whether these promises will come to fruition.
In Nakuru County last week, President Ruto announced the revival of the Kazi Mtaani initiative, a hallmark project of his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.
This program aims to provide employment opportunities to the youth, a move that has been widely welcomed by residents.
Continuing his development agenda, Ruto visited Tharaka Nithi County, where he made stops in Maara, Chuka Igambang’ombe, and Tharaka.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to improving water access in the region, stating, “Tharaka Nithi County tuko na projects mingi ya maji…milioni 180 tunaleta hapa kuhakikisha kuwa kuna maji Chogoria, Chuka, Kathwana na Marimanti,..tunataka dunia yenu isonge mbele.”
Following his visit to Tharaka Nithi, President Ruto flew to Mombasa to commence a weekend-long tour of the Coast region.
In Mvita Constituency, amidst enthusiastic cheers from the crowd, he announced significant financial support for local fishermen. “Nimewaletea hapo kesho shilingi milioni 800 ya wavuvi wa hapa pwani,” he declared, promising Ksh 800 million to boost the fishing industry.
During the unveiling of fishery projects, Ruto reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption. “Sasa tutahakikisha wafisadi kesi zao haziendi miaka miwili itakuwa miezi sita,” he asserted, pledging to expedite corruption cases to ensure justice is served within six months.
On Saturday, in Kwale County, President Ruto shifted his focus to revitalizing the cotton farming sector. He assured the coastal community of increased funding and support, promising to establish six new ginneries in Kenya.
“Nyinyi watu wa Kwale mnataka pesa mfukoni…sisi tuwapatie mbegu mzalishe pamba.. Badala ya kuagiza kutoka nje tuzalishe hapa nyumbani…mimi nitajenga ginnery 6 Kenya,” Ruto said, encouraging local production over imports.
As his tour continues today in Taita Taveta, President Ruto’s ambitious promises have sparked a mix of hope and skepticism among Kenyans. The effectiveness and implementation of these pledges remain to be seen, with many eagerly waiting to witness tangible results.
