Heartbreak as Two JKUAT Students Drown During Fun Day at Popular Dam
Police in Juja, Kiambu County, have launched an investigation into the drowning of two university students at a well-known recreational dam.
According to Citizen Digital, the bodies of the two students were discovered in the water on Sunday, March 2, after what is believed to be a tragic drowning accident.
Fun Day Turns Tragic
Preliminary reports indicate that the unfortunate incident occurred during a casual outing at a popular “park and chill” spot near Thika Road in Mugutha, Juja sub-county. The victims, aged 21 and 22, were students from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the drowning. Kiambu County divers successfully retrieved the bodies, which have since been taken to the General Kago Funeral Home for an autopsy.
Authorities Issue Safety Warning
Following the tragedy, police have cautioned Kenyans to exercise caution when visiting the scenic dam, which is well-known among outdoor lovers but is also considered hazardous.
Similar Tragedy in Kajiado
In a separate incident, grief engulfed two families in Ngong, Kajiado County, after the bodies of two young girls who had gone missing were found in a dam.
Brenda Nanjala, the mother of one of the victims, a 12-year-old girl, was heartbroken upon learning the devastating news. She recalled the last time she saw her daughter before she left home to visit a friend.
“She left home on Sunday, January 19, around 3 p.m. to visit her friend and play, but she never came back. I was later informed that they had gone to the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to take pictures. Afterward, they took a motorbike ride, and from there, I have no idea what happened,” she shared.
The grieving families have raised questions about the circumstances of the tragedy, especially since preliminary investigations revealed that one of the girls had only one shoe on, while the other was found without her clothes.
