George Natembeya Confirms Presidential Bid, Rules Out Deputy Role

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has declared his intention to vie for the presidency, promising transformative leadership once his tenure as governor concludes.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Nation, Natembeya expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of Trans Nzoia and revealed his broader political ambitions.

“From where I sit, once done with the job that the people of Trans Nzoia have given me, and I appreciate the honour and privilege to serve them, my eyes are set firmly on the presidency after I am done with this,” he stated.

Natembeya emphasized his commitment to providing a fresh alternative in Kenyan politics, focusing on accountability and practical solutions to address the country’s pressing issues.

He underscored his vision for a leadership style rooted in proactivity and transformative governance aimed at uplifting the lives of all Kenyans.

Responding to speculation about his political trajectory, Natembeya ruled out pursuing a deputy position, citing the limitations it imposes on ambitious leaders. He criticized the structural inefficiencies of the role, which he argued often stifle innovation and initiative.

“You can’t change things when you’re the deputy. The room to manoeuvre is very limited. Sometimes, even giving advice can lead to your impeachment. Kenyans want a total change, and you can’t get that by deputising anybody,” he explained.

The governor’s remarks reflect a bold and direct approach to his ambitions, signaling a readiness to challenge the status quo. He expressed confidence in his ability to steer Kenya toward a brighter future, promising a leadership style that resonates with the needs and aspirations of ordinary citizens.

Natembeya’s announcement is expected to shake up the political landscape, with many keenly watching how his pledge to deliver “total change” will unfold in the coming years.
