George Natembeya Cautions President Ruto Against Dismissing Mudavadi and Wetangula
Governor George Natembeya has called on President William Ruto not to dismiss Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.
While speaking at Kananachi village in Kiminini Constituency, Natembeya emphasized that although the two leaders do not fully represent the interests of Western Kenya, they should remain in their positions until the end of Ruto’s first term in 2027.
“I am telling President William Ruto, although you appointed Mudavadi and Wetangula, you should never sack them. Let them remain as they are, as they are benefiting from the government. Let them eat in peace,” Natembeya stated firmly.
His comments were aimed at addressing the political dynamics in the region.
Despite his critical stance, Natembeya acknowledged that the duo’s continued presence in the government would ensure they continue benefiting from the current political structure.
The governor, known for his opposition views, asserted that the people of Western Kenya, a crucial voting bloc, would soon be able to demand better representation and influence decisions.
He further questioned why the second-largest ethnic group in the country, the Mulembe people, lacked substantial representation within the government. “How come the second most populous community in Kenya is not properly represented in the government?” he asked.
Natembeya pointed out that Wetangula and Mudavadi have historically exploited the Western region for personal gain rather than working in its best interests.
Adding to his criticism, Natembeya noted that the current collaboration between President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga had sidelined Mudavadi and Wetangula, leaving them muted in the broader government coalition. This shift in the political landscape, he believes, has diminished the influence of leaders from the Western region.
The governor also took the opportunity to assert his authority over his county, Trans Nzoia. Natembeya made it clear that he would not tolerate interference from external political figures, particularly those from other counties in the Rift Valley.
“Those who think Trans Nzoia can be micromanaged from Nairobi or any other county in Rift Valley should be informed that Natembeya is in charge. I will not be intimidated by anyone,” he emphasized.
His strong words reflect his commitment to safeguarding the autonomy and interests of his county, making it clear that he is determined to maintain control over local affairs without external influence.

Natembeya’s remarks have raised the stakes in local and national political discussions, signaling his readiness to advocate for the people of Trans Nzoia and Western Kenya more broadly.
