Gachagua Questions Ruto’s Commitment to End Abductions: “Kenyans Are Tired of Lies”
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed skepticism about President William Ruto’s recent commitment to ending the ongoing abductions of government critics.
President Ruto, speaking in Homa Bay County on Friday, December 27, promised to put a stop to these incidents but also advised young people to avoid reckless actions that might lead to trouble.
However, during an open forum with journalists from Western Kenya on Sunday, December 29, Gachagua questioned Ruto’s sincerity, accusing him of frequently changing his stance to suit different situations.
Gachagua highlighted the inconsistency in Ruto’s statements, pointing out that the president had repeatedly denied the existence of abductions in the past.
“Do you believe anything this government says? They have denied abductions multiple times. Now the president says he will stop the abductions. If that’s true, who has been responsible for them? These contradictions make people lose trust. Kenyans are tired of the lies,” Gachagua remarked.
The former deputy president reiterated his earlier comments about a specific unit allegedly involved in the abductions, stating he avoided mentioning its exact location to protect innocent businesses operating nearby.
He further suggested that Ruto’s sudden acknowledgment of the abductions may have been influenced by his own revelations on the matter.
“I mentioned the need to dismantle that unit without naming the building because innocent people could be affected. However, I said the officer in charge is Abel. The president’s recent admission seems tied to what I revealed. Now, we urge him to ensure the abducted individuals are freed before the New Year,” Gachagua urged.
Gachagua appealed to the president to act swiftly so the abductees can reunite with their families and celebrate the New Year peacefully.
