Gachagua Exposes 180-Kilometer Surveillance by Government Officer
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised concerns over being trailed by an intelligence officer for a significant distance and has called for the reassignment of the resources involved.
Gachagua revealed that the officer followed him from Nairobi to Kalawa Ward in Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County, a journey of nearly 200 kilometers, where he attended a burial ceremony.
In his statement, Gachagua criticized the government’s allocation of resources, suggesting that the officer and the vehicle used could be better employed in tasks that directly enhance national security.
He said, “It was pointless to waste fuel and man hours having him follow us all the way from Nairobi to Makueni yesterday.”
He underscored the wastefulness of using fuel and man hours for surveillance over such a long distance, from Nairobi to Makueni.
Gachagua expressed that it was unnecessary for the officer to follow him all the way and urged the government to reconsider how it utilizes its security personnel and equipment.
“It would save public funds to detail your officers in Makueni to listen to what I am saying, record, and send to you instead of wasting public funds,” Gachagua stated.
His statements reflect broader concerns about the efficiency and purpose of state surveillance practices.
