Former Student Leader Fikirini Jacobs Lands Top Government Position Under Ruto
President William Ruto recently restructured his government, promoting and assigning new roles to Cabinet members. Among those recognized was Fikirini Jacobs, a prominent Gen Z figure and youth advocate.
Ruto’s consistent commitment to youth inclusion in leadership materialized with Jacobs’ nomination, sparking widespread approval among young Kenyans.
Jacobs joins 14 newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, taking on the role of Principal Secretary (PS) in the State Department for Youth Affairs and Sports.
Expressing gratitude, Jacobs thanked President Ruto for the opportunity and trust placed in him. “I humbly accept this nomination,” he stated, “and I’m committed to contributing to the government’s transformative agenda.”
“Our youth are the nation’s future,” Jacobs added, “and I’m eager to foster an environment that nurtures their potential.”
At 28, Jacobs is an experienced political figure. He holds the position of Kilifi youth leader for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and previously held student leadership roles at Maasai Mara and Pwani Universities.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Pwani University in 2023, he further engaged in politics.
He also served as the Director of the Governor’s Service Delivery Unit in Kilifi County under Governor Gideon Mung’aro.
Leaders aligned with Raila Odinga, including Governor Mung’aro and ODM’s Communication Director Philip Etale, congratulated Jacobs.
“Congratulations, Fikirini Jacobs,” Mung’aro wrote, “your appointment as PS is well-deserved, reflecting your dedication to youth service.”
Additional nominations included Jane Kare Imbunya (Public Services), Regina Akoth Ombam (Trade), Cyrell Wagunda Odede (Public Investment), Caroline Wanjiru Karugu (East African Community), Oluga Fredrick Ouma (Medical Service), and Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim (National Government Co-ordination).
