Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i Sparks Buzz in Kitui
Fred Matiang’i, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary, brought life and excitement to Kitui as he toured the Ukambani region on Friday, December 20. His visit, laden with warmth and engagement, has left a lasting impression on the locals.
Matiang’i’s presence in Kitui sparked curiosity and enthusiasm among residents, especially with rumors circulating about his potential presidential run in the 2027 General Election.
The visit was initially prompted by a somber occasion—paying respects to the family of his long-serving bodyguard, Christopher Wambua, who passed away in September.
Wambua, a native of Katulani village, had been by Matiang’i’s side for a decade, fostering a bond that transcended professional duties.
During his visit, Matiang’i made several impromptu stops along the Kitui-Machakos road, taking the opportunity to interact with locals and hawkers.
His informal engagements with traders and ‘mama mbogas’ (vegetable vendors) turned into moments of joy and excitement. Many residents seized the chance to capture their encounters with the former CS on their phones.
Photos that surfaced online showcased Matiang’i in a relaxed and cheerful state, surrounded by enthusiastic crowds.
In one notable instance, he was seen purchasing fruits and other local produce from roadside vendors—a gesture that resonated well with the residents and potentially bolstered his image as a man of the people.
