Former Bomachoge Chache MP Simon Ogari Arama Dies at 68 After Long Illness
Former assistant minister and two-time Member of Parliament for Bomachoge Chache, Simon Ogari Arama, has died at the age of 68. The veteran politician passed away at his home in Karen, Nairobi, in the early hours of Tuesday, September 10, succumbing to a long illness.
According to family sources, Ogari Arama breathed his last at around 5 a.m. “He is no more, he breathed his last at around 5 a.m. He succumbed to a long illness. Police are here and will give more details once we are done with them,” a family member said.
Ogari Arama was a prominent figure in the political landscape of Kenya, having served as a member of parliament for two terms between 2008 and 2017 under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) banner.
He was also known for his close ties with veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga. During his tenure in parliament, Ogari Arama was recognized for his dedication to his constituents and his service as an assistant minister.
Leaders from across the political spectrum have paid tribute to Ogari Arama, praising his leadership, humility, and commitment to public service.
Senator Richard Onyonka mourned the loss of a close friend and colleague, stating, “He was a polite, kind, and selfless man who was simple to a fault. Besides being a good leader and colleague, he was my personal friend for many years. He was a good man whom I will personally miss in his death.”
Nominated Senator Esther Okenyuri also expressed her deep sorrow, saying, “It is with profound grief that I have learnt of the passing on of the Former Bomachoge Chache Constituency legislator Hon. Simon Ogari. He touched many hearts throughout his life, leading with profound humility. His legacy will remain with us for a long time to come.”
Bomachoge Chache MP, Hon. Nolfason Barongo, also remembered Ogari Arama fondly, stating, “We are saddened at the news of the death of former Bomachoge Chache MP, Hon Simon Ogari Arama. Mheshimiwa Ogari served the people of Bomachoge with dedication and commitment and will be greatly missed.”
