Fire Erupts at Isiolo Boys Days After Isiolo Girls Dormitory Blaze
A fire broke out at Isiolo Boys High School on Tuesday evening, just three days after a similar incident occurred at Isiolo Girls High School. The incident adds to the alarming trend of fire outbreaks in schools across the country, with at least three other schools reporting similar disasters within a week.
The Kenya Red Cross was swift to respond, issuing a statement confirming that their response teams had been activated. “A fire incident has been reported at Isiolo Girls High School, Isiolo County.
Response teams activated,” the organization stated. Smoke was seen billowing from Isiolo Boys, with videos obtained by skynews.co.ke showing extensive damage as the fire consumed valuable property. Passersby could only watch in disbelief as flames engulfed the institution, with the cause of the fire still unknown at the time of publication.
This latest incident at Isiolo Boys High School raises concerns about potential arson, as it occurred shortly after a dormitory at Isiolo Girls High School was razed. The proximity and timing of the two incidents have led authorities to consider whether the fires were deliberately set. This suspicion is further heightened by similar cases across the country.
On Monday evening, Yemit Boys High School also reported a fire outbreak. Within hours, another fire occurred at Father Makewa School in Machakos County. The spate of fire incidents has left many concerned about safety protocols in schools and whether enough is being done to prevent such tragedies.
The incidents come as the nation is in mourning following the tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha School in Nyeri County, where several students lost their lives. President William Ruto, in a recent directive, ordered flags to be flown at half-mast to honor the victims and called for urgent investigations into the causes of these fires.
“Compliance with government regulations on curbing fire accidents in learning institutions is not negotiable.

This is the only insurance we have to effectively prevent the loss of life and limb in schools,” the President declared on September 10, emphasizing the need for stricter safety measures in educational institutions.
Security agencies are now under pressure to expedite their investigations, with President Ruto awaiting a comprehensive report on the causes of these tragic fires.
