Ezekiel Mutua’s Suspension as MCSK CEO Amid Financial Scandal Debunked as Fake News
The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has refuted claims circulating on social media that its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, has been dismissed from his position.
The organization described the reports as “fake propaganda” designed to discredit its leadership.
In an official statement released on Monday, MCSK Chairman Lazarus Muli assured members and stakeholders that Dr. Mutua remains firmly in charge. “Our members and stakeholders can rest assured that Dr. Mutua is in charge, and the MCSK leadership is fully behind him,” Muli emphasized.
The chairman further urged the public to disregard the misinformation. “This is, therefore, to request Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) members and stakeholders to dismiss the propaganda being peddled with the contempt it deserves,” he added.
According to Muli, the false claims are part of a campaign orchestrated by individuals unhappy with the progress the organization has made under Mutua’s leadership. “The material being circulated by people with ill motives is pure propaganda by cartels in the industry who are unhappy with the great work Mutua is doing for MCSK and the music industry in general,” the statement read.
MCSK expressed its commitment to addressing the issue legally, warning that the perpetrators of the fake poster would be held accountable. “Appropriate action is being taken against the authors of the malicious documents to ensure that they face the law for defamation and spreading falsehood,” the statement noted.
Muli praised Dr. Mutua’s transformative efforts in the creative industry, highlighting his resolve to dismantle cartels that have long exploited Kenyan artists. He stated that these reforms are likely the reason behind the targeted misinformation.
This controversy unfolds amidst a backdrop of leadership wrangles within MCSK. Recently, a group of individuals claiming to have been elected as new board members in an extraordinary general meeting attempted to assume leadership but were blocked from accessing MCSK offices.
Despite the ongoing disputes, MCSK reiterated its support for Dr. Mutua and his team as they continue their mission to improve the music industry.
