Dp Gachagua Shaken as 69 Lawmakers Officially Back CS Kindiki as Mt. Kenya’s Top Liaison
The political landscape in Mt. Kenya continues to shift dramatically, as 69 members of Parliament have thrown their weight behind Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki as their representative to the national executive.
This support was solidified on Thursday during a high-profile meeting in Nyahururu, Laikipia County, where 40 legislators from Mt. Kenya West and the diaspora signed the ‘Nyahururu Declaration.’
The endorsement marks a significant moment in the region’s politics, with the Mt. Kenya and Diaspora Parliamentary Leaders Forum officially naming Kindiki as the key liaison between their legislative efforts and the national government.
This move may signal a brewing political rivalry between CS Kindiki and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over control of Central Kenya’s political sphere.
In a statement, the legislators highlighted the urgent need for cohesive representation. “Given the prevailing state of affairs and the urgency of the mission ahead, there is a need for a link that will create a nexus between us and the National Executive on development matters,” the MPs explained. They noted that Prof. Kindiki’s role as Interior Cabinet Secretary, which includes overseeing national government coordination, makes him the ideal candidate to represent their interests.
The leaders from both Mt. Kenya and the diaspora are aiming to streamline their developmental agendas with the national government.
“Accordingly, we, as the elected leaders from this region and its diaspora, unanimously resolve that our link to the National Government be the Cabinet Secretary for the Interior and National Administration, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, whose responsibilities include the coordination of National Government functions across the country,” they added.
This endorsement is expected to reinforce Kindiki’s influence in national politics and regional development planning, creating a direct link between Mt. Kenya leaders and the executive branch.
Attendees at the Nyahururu meeting included notable names such as Kimani Ichung’wah, Alice Ng’ang’a, and John Kiarie.
They expressed gratitude to their constituents for their continued support and reaffirmed their commitment to holding regular meetings to monitor progress and address emerging issues.
The decision sets the stage for future political developments, with Prof. Kindiki now at the forefront of Mt. Kenya’s representation in the national government.
