Detectives Nab Main Culprit Behind Akoko the Billionaire’s Death
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended the primary suspect in the brutal murder of Sospeter Osunga, famously known as ‘Akoko the Billionaire.’
The Kirinyaga University student was killed on November 18 in a tragic incident that has since sparked public outcry.
After detailed investigations, three individuals were initially detained, providing crucial leads that helped investigators trace Brian Otieno Maurice, the main suspect. Maurice is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, December 9.
“Investigations have revealed that on the fateful day, Osunga was fatally attacked by a gang of hoodlums in the Ayani area. He sustained fatal wounds on his back, believed to have been caused by a sharp object,” stated the DCI.
The deadly altercation occurred after a heated exchange involving Akoko’s group and bodaboda riders. Reports indicate that the fourth-year student was viciously hacked by a mob, succumbing to multiple injuries.
Originally from Siaya County, Akoko had traveled to Kibera on the invitation of a friend, accompanied by a man and a woman. The group spent time at a local bar, where Akoko offered drinks to all patrons before moving to another venue hosting an Ohangla music performance.
The night took a tragic turn when a disagreement erupted at the club. Enraged bodaboda riders reportedly clashed with Akoko’s entourage after an alleged remark made by the student. In the chaos, Akoko’s female companion suffered severe injuries but managed to escape, while his driver fled and reported the matter to the authorities.
Akoko, well-known for his extravagant lifestyle, often showcased his wealth on social media through posts featuring nightlife, road trips, and luxury outings.
His untimely death shocked many, occurring just two months after another Kirinyaga University student, Dennis Oduor Otieno, was mysteriously found dead in a Mombasa apartment following a party.
