DCI Responds to Reports on Blocking Gachagua’s Church Appearance
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has strongly refuted claims that its officers attempted to prevent former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from attending a church service on Sunday, November 10.
The allegations were initially reported by Daily Nation, suggesting that DCI detectives, in unmarked vehicles, visited the residence of Pastor JJ Gitahi, the lead cleric at Priesthood Fellowship Church in Kahawa West, Nairobi, where Gachagua was scheduled to attend.
According to Daily Nation, detectives sought to question Pastor Gitahi at his Ruiru residence on Sunday morning, purportedly aiming to understand why he was hosting Gachagua.
The report claimed that authorities believed Gachagua might use the church platform to incite the public amidst his ongoing political struggles. However, the DCI has categorically denied any such intervention, emphasizing that the agency operates strictly within legal boundaries and respects the rights of individuals to freedom of assembly and worship.
In a statement, the DCI clarified, “We want to clarify that these allegations are entirely false and seem to be aimed at misrepresenting the actions and intentions of the DCI.
The DCI operates within the parameters established by the rule of law and has consistently affirmed its commitment to refraining from interference in the liberties of individuals and institutions.”

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) wishes to address the misleading claims published in the Daily Nation on November 11, 2024, regarding alleged attempts by detectives in unmarked Subaru cars to prevent Hon. Rigathi…
The controversy comes as Gachagua faces various political challenges following his impeachment on October 18. With his removal, Gachagua lost security privileges and vacated the official residence allocated to the Deputy President. Additionally, his wife’s office saw a budget reduction of KSh 557 million, a move the government described as part of broader cost-cutting efforts.
Gachagua has previously alleged attempts on his life, claiming that his security was compromised during public events, notably in Kisumu and Nyeri County. These allegations led the DCI to summon him for a statement to facilitate a thorough investigation, though Gachagua reportedly declined to comply.
The DCI’s strong response suggests a continued commitment to transparency, as it seeks to dispel any concerns of politically motivated interference in citizens’ rights. The agency’s clarification also underscores its dedication to upholding the rule of law amid the ongoing political landscape.
