DCI Nabs 38 Suspects Accused of Terrorizing Kenyans During Ruto’s Tour
Law enforcement officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have detained 38 individuals suspected of committing robberies during President William Ruto’s recent visit to Nairobi. These arrests followed reports of robberies where young people assaulted citizens on major roads during the President’s tour.
In a statement released on Saturday, March 15, the DCI reported that the suspects were apprehended for attacking and robbing people on Thika Highway, Waiyaki Way, and Jogoo Road.
“Following recent assaults on innocent citizens along Thika Highway, Waiyaki Way, and Jogoo Road, police have acted quickly to ensure those responsible are held accountable. A total of 38 suspects have been taken into custody and are currently being processed at various police stations before their court appearance,” the DCI stated.
During the police operation, several motorcycles, believed to have been used by the criminal groups to intimidate citizens, and numerous stolen cell phones were recovered.
The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, March 17, to face charges including robbery with violence, planning to commit a serious crime, and hindering lawful activities. “During the operation, seven motorcycles used to terrorize citizens and several cell phones were recovered and are being held as evidence. The suspects will be brought before the court on Monday, where they will face charges including robbery with violence, preparation to commit a felony, and obstruction,” the statement further explained.
The DCI statement also indicated that police are still searching for other individuals involved in these attacks.
