CSs Mbadi, Alice Wahome Fire 12 Gov’t Officials, Announce Replacements Amid Public Pressure
In a decisive move aimed at enhancing service delivery within their respective ministries, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Land Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome have undertaken significant changes, firing a total of 12 government officials.
The sweeping reforms, outlined in a Gazette Notice dated September 6, 2024, are seen as part of a broader strategy to revitalize key sectors of the government.
CS Mbadi, overseeing the Treasury, dismissed four officials who served as trustees of the Kenya National Entrepreneurs Savings Trust (KNEST), a national pension scheme designed to assist informal sector workers across the country.
The officials relieved of their duties include Martha Opisa Okochil, Louis Karisa, Ruth Jerotich, and Tom Okundi. These individuals were pivotal in managing the Trust’s affairs, but their removal signals a shift towards new leadership.
In their place, Mbadi appointed four new trustees: Irene Githiga from the Federation of Matatu Drivers and Conductors Association, Kevin Bwire Mubadi of the Kenya National Boda Boda Association, Joseph Kisoro Ogola representing the Kenya National Federation of Jua Kali Association, and Teresia Njenga from the Mitumba Association.
These new appointees, chosen for their experience in grassroots organizations, will serve for a three-year term, effective immediately.
Interestingly, despite their removal from KNEST, two of the fired officials, Ruth Jerotich and Tom Okundi, were quickly reappointed by Health CS Deborah Barasa to the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council.
Their new roles signal that their expertise remains valued within the government. Similarly, Louis Karisa found a new position on the Women Enterprise Fund Advisory Board, appointed by Public Service CS Justin Muturi.
Meanwhile, CS Wahome made even more extensive changes in her ministry, terminating the services of eight officials from the Lamu West Land Control Board. Those dismissed include Julia Wamboi Njuguna, Ali Omar Mohammed, Simon Muguro Mwarania, Julia Wamaitha Kimani, John Mbugua Njoka, Zeinabu Gobu Wako, James Muriithi Ngiriri, and Cecilia Wanjiku Ng’ang’a.
These individuals were replaced by seven new members, including Samoe Farouk Fadhil, County Physical Planner, Moses Kiarie Wanjiku, Omar Bakari Ibrahim, Nasra Abdurehman Omar, Biha Wanje Baya, Maalim Fadhili Maalim, and Abubakar Masoud Rashid. The new officials will serve for a term of two years and six months.
These changes come amidst increasing pressure on President William Ruto’s cabinet to deliver on its promises, following widespread protests across the country.
The public’s growing discontent with the Kenya Kwanza regime has forced the administration to take more aggressive steps to address inefficiencies and restore public confidence.
