Caleb Amisi Warns William Ruto against Relying on Luhya Votes in 2027: “Think Twice”
Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has issued a strong warning to President William Ruto regarding his expectations for support from the Luhya community in the 2027 elections. In a pointed tweet on Monday, November 11, Amisi suggested that Ruto’s presumed reliance on the Western Kenya vote may not be as straightforward as he might hope.
According to Amisi, President Ruto is strategically attempting to secure Luhya votes through the influence of “political dinosaurs” — prominent, long-standing political figures who have historically represented the region.
Amisi implied that Ruto sees the Western Kenya vote as more attainable due to uncertainties surrounding his previous stronghold in Mt. Kenya, especially given recent tensions with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. This apparent rift has raised questions about whether Ruto can maintain his foothold in the Mt. Kenya region come 2027.
In his message, Amisi did not mince words, suggesting that the president’s strategy may be based on an oversimplified view of Western Kenya’s political landscape. “Ruto wants Western votes next election at a throwaway price through the perennial political dinosaurs, ostensibly because Kikuyu votes have a price tag. Well, think twice. Vindu vichenjanga. Western will not be a walk in the park because of historical injustices!” he tweeted, referencing the Luhya saying “things change” to emphasize his caution to the president.
Amisi’s remarks came shortly after he met with members of the Luhya Council of Elders in Trans Nzoia County. In a separate statement, he shared insights from their meeting, underscoring the significance of leadership unity across generations. “Today, I met elders from the political wing of the Luhya Council of Elders residing in Trans Nzoia County, who called on me. The energy and enthusiasm of the young must be supplemented with the wisdom of the old to achieve holistic leadership in society. Mbele ni kuzuri!” he said.
With these statements, Amisi has brought attention to the complexities within Western Kenya’s political scene, potentially setting the stage for a more nuanced debate as the 2027 elections approach.
