Busted! 22-year-old Man Nabbed with Four sacks of Bhang
In a decisive effort to combat the growing menace of drug trafficking, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in separate operations targeting cannabis distribution across different parts of Kenya.
Arrest of Suspect in Nairobi County
The most recent incident occurred in Nyalani village, Nairobi County, where 22-year-old Emmanuel Mwanyae was apprehended by police officers based at Kaloleni Police Station.
According to a statement issued by the DCI on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the arrest was executed following a public tip-off.
During the operation, officers seized four full sacks of bhang. Mwanyae is currently in police custody and undergoing processing, with the confiscated cannabis being held as an exhibit ahead of his arraignment.
“Crackdown on narcotics: acting on a tip from members of the public, police officers based at Kaloleni Police Station have nabbed 22-year-old Emmanuel Mwanyae at Nyalani village and seized four sacks of bhang,” the DCI stated.
Efforts to Disrupt Cannabis Trafficking Networks
This arrest forms part of a broader national operation by law enforcement to dismantle drug trafficking routes and networks along key transportation corridors. The DCI has reiterated its commitment to pursuing offenders and ensuring their prosecution.
Earlier, on April 16, 2025, DCI officers in Moyale arrested 35-year-old Amina Mala Gure after receiving intelligence that led them to her residence in Antut village. A search of her premises resulted in the discovery of 27 tightly wrapped bales of cannabis sativa weighing approximately 137.8 kilograms.
The DCI valued the seized cannabis at Ksh4.13 million. It was hidden in sacks and a metallic box within her home.

“In an operation that left no room for escape, Moyale police officers have arrested Amina Mala Gure, 35, a notorious trafficker, who has been on the police radar for her involvement in the underworld of cannabis trafficking,” read part of the official statement.
Cannabis Interception at Bus Terminal in Migori
In a separate operation conducted on April 15, 2025, 26-year-old Bernard Kungu was arrested in Migori County after police officers responded to reports of suspicious behavior at the Tahmeed bus booking office. Kungu was found attempting to board a bus destined for Mombasa.
Upon searching his two bags, authorities uncovered 152 rolls of bhang. Following his arrest, Kungu allegedly confessed that he was transporting the illegal cargo to the coastal city.
“Responding to reports of a suspicious character trying to board a bus to Mombasa at the Tahmeed booking office in Migori, officers rushed to the scene. There, they intercepted 26-year-old Bernard Kungu, who was accompanied by two rather bulky bags,” the DCI confirmed.
Public Cooperation Remains Critical
The Directorate praised members of the public for their continued support in providing actionable intelligence that has aided in several successful arrests and seizures. Authorities have encouraged more citizens to come forward with information to help eradicate drug-related activities.
National Commitment Against Narcotics
The DCI has emphasized that the war on drugs remains a top priority and warned traffickers that law enforcement agencies will continue to intensify their efforts. The institution reaffirmed its resolve to pursue and prosecute those found engaging in the distribution and transportation of narcotics across the country.
