Alfred Mutua Reveals Job Abroad Requirements as Recruitment Kicks Off in All Counties
The government has rolled out a nationwide recruitment drive to connect Kenyans with job opportunities abroad, kicking off on Wednesday, November 20, at the Machakos Technical Institute for the Blind.
The initiative, led by Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, aims to streamline access to overseas employment for both skilled and unskilled labourers.
Mutua announced that the recruitment exercise will be conducted in all 47 counties, emphasizing the need for job seekers to prepare adequately. He encouraged applicants to register on the eCitizen portal to access the necessary documents and ensure a seamless process.
“This is a great opportunity for Kenyans to secure employment abroad and improve their livelihoods. However, preparedness is key. I urge all job seekers to ensure they have the necessary documentation to enhance their chances during the selection process,” said Mutua.
Key Requirements for Applicants
Applicants are required to present the following:
- Academic and professional certificates
- A certificate of good conduct
- A valid passport or proof of application from the eCitizen portal
- Other relevant qualifications depending on the job
The process targets a wide range of professions, including teachers, nurses, engineers, mechanics, caregivers, beauticians, cleaners, and farm specialists. According to the Labour CS, the first phase is projected to create 20,000 overseas job opportunities.
Enhancing Compliance and Addressing Concerns
To ensure international compliance, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Immigration Department will oversee the recruitment exercise. The government also acknowledged reports of mistreatment faced by Kenyans abroad but assured citizens that these incidents are isolated and addressed promptly.
“This initiative aligns with the government’s goal of leveraging global labour markets and deploying between 5,000 to 10,000 Kenyans annually for overseas employment,” Mutua affirmed.
Job seekers are encouraged to attend recruitment venues on scheduled dates to maximize their chances. The exercise marks a significant step in the government’s broader plan to enhance livelihoods through global employment opportunities.
