Aisha Jumwa Booed in Kilifi After Requesting Ruto for Cabinet Reappointment
Former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa faced a hostile reception in her hometown of Kilifi on Saturday as she attempted to address a local gathering. The crowd’s reaction starkly highlighted the growing tensions within the community regarding her potential reappointment.
While addressing the crowd, Jumwa expressed confidence in President William Ruto’s recognition of her capabilities and hinted at the possibility of her reinstatement to the cabinet. “William Ruto does not need to campaign for Aisha Jumwa, he knows her and if it pleases him, he will say that Aisha Jumwa should continue being part of the cabinet,” she stated, referring to herself in the third person.
“If he says Aisha Jumwa to continue, in Kilifi we will say Amen and if he says Aisha Jumwa should rest we will also say Amen.”
Her comments, however, were met with immediate disapproval. Rowdy youths in the crowd began booing and chanting, demanding that President Ruto reject Jumwa’s request.

The atmosphere quickly became charged, making it nearly impossible for Jumwa to continue her speech.
Jumwa attempted to appeal to the crowd’s sense of gratitude, attributing her statements to her Christian upbringing.
She emphasized the importance of being thankful regardless of the outcome, whether she was reinstated or not. However, her words fell on deaf ears as the majority of the crowd maintained their opposition.
Local leaders accompanying Jumwa tried to pacify the agitated crowd, pleading with them to allow her to speak. Despite their efforts, the chants and boos persisted, cutting her address short and preventing her from delivering her full message.
This incident marked Jumwa’s first public appearance since President Ruto reinstated four previously dismissed cabinet secretaries. Among those reinstated were Kithure Kindiki (Interior Security), Aden Duale (Defence), Davis Chirchir (Roads and Transport), and Alice Wahome (Lands).
Additionally, former Trade CS Rebecca Miano was appointed as the nation’s first female Attorney General.
Jumwa’s plea for reappointment and the crowd’s reaction underscore the complex dynamics at play in Kilifi and reflect broader sentiments regarding political appointments. The event serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by public figures in securing and maintaining the support of their constituencies.
