Ahmednasir Deletes Controversial Tweet on Ruto’s Popularity
Prominent lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, known for his outspoken and often controversial views, found himself at the center of a heated online debate on Saturday, November 16, after deleting a tweet criticizing President William Ruto’s standing in the Mt Kenya region.
The contentious tweet highlighted a perceived decline in Ruto’s popularity in Central Kenya, urging the president to shift his focus toward the Western and Nyanza regions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ahmednasir alluded to Ruto’s lukewarm reception during his recent visit to Embu, arguing that the president was being misled by his Central Kenya allies.
“In his calculation for 2027, today is the day President William Ruto should start pivoting to Nyanza and Western and should stop the false/delusional narrative his side chicks in Central are feeding him,” Ahmednasir stated.
The senior counsel went further, suggesting that Ruto had “completely lost control” of the Mt Kenya voting bloc.
He provocatively remarked, “Today is the right time for President William Ruto to know that Central Kenya imeenda kabisa and for good! Or do we organize a by-election in Kiambu to drive the point home that Gachagua can show UDA dust?”
While Ahmednasir’s tweet quickly gained traction, his decision to delete it soon after triggered widespread trolling. Kenyans speculated that the lawyer may have been pressured by government operatives to retract his statements.
In response to the criticism, Ahmednasir denied bowing to any external influence, asserting that his deletions were intentional. “When I delete a tweet I previously posted, it isn’t because I was wrong or I was pressured or someone pleaded with me to delete. To the contrary, I deliberately delete some tweets to create a thriving secondary market and generate more debate and discussion,” he explained.
Despite his justification, the backlash has raised questions about the freedom of expression in Kenyan politics and the role of influential figures like Ahmednasir in shaping political discourse.
