Peter Kaluma Faces US and Irish Media Backlash Over Misleading Kamala Harris Post
Homa Bay Member of Parliament George Peter Kaluma has stirred controversy in the United States after posting inaccurate information regarding Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party’s campaign.
Kaluma, known for his conservative views, recently traveled to the U.S. to campaign for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 elections.
The outspoken MP has been active on social media, where he frequently voices his support for Trump. However, one of his recent posts has caught international attention for all the wrong reasons.
On September 11, Kaluma shared a misleading tweet featuring a photo of nudists participating in a cycling event, claiming the image represented the Democratic Party’s campaign under Kamala Harris.
“The reason I have left USA Democrats to support Republicans. Democrats have lost it!” Kaluma tweeted, alongside an image of naked cyclists covered in paint. The photograph, however, was not from the United States but from Cork, Ireland, during the World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) event on August 27.
Kaluma’s post quickly garnered backlash, with both American and Irish media outlets criticizing the lawmaker for spreading misinformation. Journalists from Cork’s 96FM expressed dismay at Kaluma’s actions, pointing out that his misleading post was believed by many online. “The danger in this is that I read the comments and only two people said that the photo was wrong and was from Cork. Pure falsehood is heightening on social media,” the radio station reported.
Kaluma, a staunch critic of Kamala Harris, has been openly advocating for Trump, labeling Harris as “fake” while accusing the Democratic Party of deviating from traditional values.
His vocal support for Trump aligns with his conservative stance, both in the U.S. and in his home country of Kenya. Last year, Kaluma introduced a controversial bill in Kenya calling for harsh penalties, including life imprisonment and the death sentence, for individuals involved in same-gender activities.
Kaluma’s decision to campaign in the U.S. and his posts targeting Harris and the Democrats have drawn global attention, with many condemning his approach to political discourse.
