Narc Kenya Leader Martha Karua Exposes Loopholes in Endarasha Fire Investigations, Accuses Authorities of Cover-Up
Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua has raised significant concerns about the investigation into the tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy, which claimed the lives of 21 pupils.
The blaze, which engulfed a dormitory housing 156 students, has prompted a critical response from Karua, who argues that many crucial questions remain unanswered.
On Wednesday, September 11, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) released a status report detailing the incident. According to the report, the fire broke out in a dormitory with a high number of occupants, but failed to address several pressing issues surrounding safety and responsibility.
Karua has called out the Ministry of Education for what she describes as glaring inadequacies in their safety guidelines. In her reaction to the DCI’s report, she questioned the adherence to safety protocols and the overall response to the disaster. “Totally unsatisfactory,” Karua said.
“What are the ministry’s guidelines on pupil safety and were they followed? Where was the watchman, matron, or teacher on duty? Were the students locked in, to prevent escape in the wake of the disaster?”
Karua emphasized that the lack of immediate answers to these fundamental questions suggests a potential cover-up. She insists that accountability should have been established from the onset. “These simple questions ought to have been answered on day one and heads should have rolled unless there is a cover-up,” she added.
The fire has not only left families grieving but also cast a spotlight on the need for stringent safety measures in schools.
As the investigation continues, Karua’s calls for transparency and accountability resonate with many who are demanding justice for the young victims of this heart-wrenching tragedy.
