Ahmednasir Warns Ruto Against Gachagua’s Growing Influence: ‘Cut Him Down Before It’s Too Late’
Prominent lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has issued a stern warning to President William Ruto, urging him to avoid repeating the mistakes made by his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, in handling a rebellious deputy president.
Ahmednasir, known for his bold political commentary, delivered his remarks on Monday, September 9, emphasizing the importance of strong leadership in dealing with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In his statement, Ahmednasir highlighted how former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s failure to confront Ruto, who was then his deputy, ultimately led to complications in his administration.
“H.E Ruto must learn from the mistakes of Uhuru. Just like Uhuru made many costly mistakes and was extremely clumsy in addressing the open rebellion of his deputy, William Ruto, William Ruto must not make the same mistakes all over again,” he warned.
Ahmednasir further suggested that President Ruto has the means to avoid such pitfalls, noting that Ruto currently enjoys a strong parliamentary majority, which could be used to discipline his deputy.
While recognizing that a move to impeach Gachagua could spark political turbulence, the outspoken lawyer argued that firm action is necessary. “Unlike Uhuru, Ruto (for the time being) has the numbers in parliament. Of course, removing Gachagua brings to the fore many problems for Ruto, but just like Uhuru made mistakes in failing to confront Ruto head-on and deal with him decisively, Ruto must learn from history and not make the same mistake,” Ahmednasir advised.
According to the lawyer, allowing Gachagua to freely campaign and criticize the government could create a toxic political environment. “A deputy president should never be allowed to abuse and undermine his boss 24/7… it just doesn’t make sense. A deputy president who openly rebels against his boss, develops his constituency over time, will run a parallel government,” he explained.
In closing, Ahmednasir emphasized the urgency of curbing Gachagua’s influence before it spirals out of control. “He must cut Gachagua to size before he becomes too big to handle… as Uhuru belatedly realized with his deputy, William Ruto… to his eternal regret,” he concluded.
