Uhuru’s Brother Muhoho and Other Key Allies Likely to Join Ruto’s Cabinet Ahead of 2027
On Monday, December 9, former president Uhuru Kenyatta met with his successor, President William Ruto. While both leaders initially explained that their meeting focused on national issues, The Star has learned that there was more to the discussion.
The meeting also involved political matters, particularly President Ruto’s plans to strengthen his position in Mt Kenya.
One of the key strategies is for Ruto to enlist Uhuru’s younger brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, into his government. Muhoho could be given a Cabinet post and may even become Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 elections.
Sources close to the Kenyatta family revealed that the leaders were already strategizing for the upcoming vote. They focused on the shifting political landscape in Mt Kenya, especially the increasing influence of impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The two leaders discussed ways to reduce Gachagua’s influence, including bringing in Uhuru’s loyal allies into government positions.
In addition to Muhoho, other potential Cabinet Secretaries mentioned include former Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe, former Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, and former Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi. These figures could help Ruto secure the support he needs in the region as he looks to run for re-election.
