Moses Kajwang’s Senate Committee Tops National Performance Rankings
The County Public Accounts Committee, led by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, has been recognized as the best-performing Senate Committee in a recent survey.
According to the Global Ranking Analysis Overview Senate Committees Performance Report, released on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Kajwang’s committee achieved an impressive score of 75.8%. The analysis was carried out by the Authoritative Global Ranking Analysis research firm, which evaluated Senate committees and sessions throughout the year.
Trailing closely behind was the County Public Investment and Special Funds Committee, chaired by Geoffrey Osotsi, with a score of 74.5%. Mohammed Abbas Sheikh’s Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations Committee ranked third with 70.7%, while Marsabit Senator Chute Mohamed Said’s National Cohesion, Equal Opportunity, and Regional Integration Committee secured the fourth position at 69.4%. In fifth place was Kirinyaga Senator Murango James Kamau’s Senate Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries Committee, which garnered a score of 64.4%.
The analysis offered a comprehensive evaluation of the committees’ performance in executing their constitutional duties to benefit Kenyans.
“During the analysis, we examined several key areas, including the committees’ oversight roles and activities, the reports presented in the Senate House, senators’ levels of participation in respective committee meetings, the composition of committee members, teamwork shared with the committee leadership, and the Bills they have sponsored,” read a statement from the research firm.
The survey delved into the committees’ societal impact, considering the consequences of their legislative work and public contributions. It also examined their visibility in media platforms, including online and mainstream outlets, which help keep citizens informed about Senate activities.
“This is a clear platform to inform and educate the public about the activities going on,” the statement added.
Furthermore, the committees’ engagement with communities was a crucial factor in the rankings. The report evaluated the frequency of field visits, interactions with local communities, and feedback collection processes.
“Impressively, the report has also highlighted the committees’ involvement in supporting devolution, mediating county leadership conflicts, providing oversight for struggling counties, and addressing employment imbalances in government institutions like Parastatals to promote equality and cohesion,” the statement noted.
