Nandi County’s Health and Transport Ministers Resign Amid Turmoil
Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang’ has accepted the resignation of two key county ministers, just days before unveiling a restructured cabinet.
The resignations come in the wake of public unrest and mounting pressure for accountability within the county government.
Engineer Drice Kibet Rono, the County Executive Member for Transport and Infrastructure, and Ruth Cherotich Koech, the County Executive Member for Health and Sanitation, tendered their resignation letters to the governor, who acknowledged them on Thursday, November 21.
During a press briefing to announce his new cabinet lineup, Governor Sang’ confirmed the resignations. He stated, “I have received and accepted the resignation letters of Engineer Drice Kibet Rono and Ruth Cherotich Koech. Their contributions to the development of our county have been commendable, and I thank them for their service.”
To ensure continuity, Sang’ assigned his deputy, Yulita Mitei, to act as the County Executive Member for Health and Sanitation. The position for Transport and Infrastructure remains unoccupied, awaiting further appointments.
The resignations follow heated protests that erupted on Wednesday, November 18, when demonstrators stormed the governor’s office. Protesters demanded explanations for alleged mismanagement of public funds, claiming that critical sectors such as health and infrastructure were underperforming.
Speaking about the protests, Governor Sang’ called for calm and pledged to address the concerns raised by residents. “As a government, we are committed to accountability and ensuring that the resources of this county are utilized effectively. The cabinet reshuffle is part of our efforts to enhance service delivery and rebuild trust,” he remarked.
The reshuffle, Governor Sang’ emphasized, aims to breathe fresh energy into his administration and ensure that the county’s development agenda is on track.
With the latest changes, all eyes are on the Nandi County government as residents await the impact of the new cabinet appointments. The developments mark a critical turning point in the county’s leadership, as the administration works to regain public confidence amid rising scrutiny.
