Kimani Kuria Breaks Silence on Replacing Ndindi Nyoro in Budget Committee
Molo MP Kuria Kimani has expressed readiness to assume the role of chairperson of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee, should the position be made available to him. This comes amid speculation about a leadership shake-up targeting Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, who currently holds the position.
Speaking on Tuesday, November 19, Kimani clarified that he had not received formal communication about the rumored changes. “Government organizes itself how they want. That proposal has not come. It will have to come through a select committee of Parliament, something that has not happened,” he stated.
However, the lawmaker reiterated his commitment to serving Kenyans, regardless of the committee or position he is assigned. “I am always at the service of Kenyans. Whether it’s finance, transport, or energy, I am always available to serve the people of Molo and Kenya in whichever capacity I am given,” he affirmed.
Reports suggest that Nyoro’s potential removal is part of a broader political reorganization led by President William Ruto, aimed at diminishing the influence of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies. The alleged shake-up has already seen several associates of the ousted DP vacate key positions.
On the same day, Laikipia Senator John Kinyua, a known Gachagua ally, resigned as a Parliamentary Service Commission commissioner. Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, in a plenary session, announced Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga as Kinyua’s replacement. The motion to confirm Wamatinga’s appointment was passed without opposition.
This reshuffling follows allegations by Gachagua of being targeted and trailed, intensifying political tensions within the ruling coalition. His allies have expressed concerns over their diminishing presence in critical government roles.
Kimani’s remarks underscore his readiness to step up, reflecting his ambition and commitment to public service amidst the ongoing political realignments. For now, the decision lies in the hands of parliamentary processes, as speculation continues over the future of Nyoro and other Gachagua loyalists.
