Fred Matiang’i Enlists Influential Lobbyists to Unseat President Ruto in 2027 Election
Fred Matiang’i, Kenya’s former Interior Cabinet Secretary, has enlisted the services of Canadian lobbying powerhouse Dickens & Madson, the same firm instrumental in securing the historic presidential victory for Botswana’s Duma Boko.
This move signals Matiang’i’s potential ambitions for Kenya’s 2027 presidential elections, even as he remains silent on his candidacy.
In a stunning turn of events, Duma Boko unseated Botswana’s ruling party after 58 years in power, a feat partly attributed to the lobbying efforts of Dickens & Madson. The firm, led by former Mossad agent Ari Ben-Menashe, specializes in international political campaigns and influence.
On July 10, 2024, Boko signed a contract with the firm, paving the way for his presidential triumph. Just three days later, Matiang’i inked his own deal with the same firm, raising speculation about his strategic intentions.
Documents filed with the U.S. Department of Justice under the Foreign Agents Registration Act reveal that Matiang’i paid a retainer fee of $250,000 (Sh32 million) to the firm.
Their mandate includes lobbying foreign governments, shaping international public opinion, and fundraising for his campaign. According to the filings, the firm will lobby U.S. legislative and executive branches, as well as international organizations, to bolster Matiang’i’s image and support his presidential aspirations.
The documents state:
“We shall also provide public relations and media assistance to project a positive image of you in the international media. Additionally, we shall assist in fundraising and establishing key personnel for your campaign.”
Matiang’i’s re-emergence comes after a period of turbulence following President William Ruto’s rise to power. Once a key ally of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Matiang’i faced a series of legal and political challenges before leaving for the U.S. His name, however, has remained central to discussions about Kenya’s 2027 elections.
With Dickens & Madson’s proven track record, including Boko’s groundbreaking victory, Matiang’i appears to be aligning himself with a tested team as he positions himself for a possible presidential run. Whether his political debut mirrors Boko’s success remains to be seen.
