Governor George Natembeya Pokes Holes into Police Investigations of ‘Mukuru Quarry’ Murders
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has raised serious concerns about the police investigations into the ‘Mukuru Quarry’ murders.
The former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner has pointed out several critical flaws in the probe, especially regarding the suspected serial killer, Collins Jumaisi.
Natembeya questioned the thoroughness of the investigations, suggesting that the suspect may have been arrested hastily to alleviate pressure on the police. “Bodies are being retrieved from a quarry and we are being told that it is only one person, a young man, did that. It is said that the man cut someone weighing 100 kilogrammes, put them in a sack and carried the body alone and no one saw them. Really?” Natembeya remarked skeptically.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has claimed that Jumaisi confessed to killing 42 women, and he is the primary suspect due to his confession. However, despite the arrest of two additional suspects, no substantial evidence has linked them to the crimes.
Natembeya cast doubt on the possibility of Jumaisi acting alone, emphasizing the logistical challenge of carrying bodies without assistance. He urged the police to identify and apprehend any potential accomplices. “How could the man carry the body by himself?” he questioned, adding, “Therefore, who are the other suspects and why have they not been arrested?”
Further, the governor raised the issue of the victims’ screams during the murders, questioning why no one heard them. The DCI reported that the suspect’s house contained a blood-stained hammer, pliers, knife, and scissors, and that postmortem results showed the victims died from excessive bleeding. Still, Natembeya doubted the thoroughness of the investigation. “That woman who was being killed, didn’t she scream? Who is this man covering up for? That is laziness. If that man says that he did those things by himself, does that case end there?” he asked.
Lastly, Natembeya questioned the role of the local security team, particularly why they had no prior knowledge of the serial killings.
Following the discovery of the bodies, acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja transferred all officers from Kware Police Station to ensure an unbiased investigation.

Natembeya criticized the intelligence operatives and the security team for failing in their duty to protect the community. “Those officers who were in charge slept on their jobs. Those people need to be home. Where were the entire security team and the intelligence? It cannot be one person? Those officers who are tasked with protecting lives need to take responsibility,” he stated.
Natembeya also speculated that Jumaisi might have been coerced into confessing to the murders to reduce the pressure on the police. “I will not be surprised if the man may have been told to confess to ease pressure,” he concluded.
