Oscar Sudi Issues Ultimatum to Gachagua Amid Impeachment Crisis: ‘Seven Days Left’
In a dramatic turn of events, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is facing mounting pressure from lawmakers, particularly those from the Rift Valley, to step down. However, Gachagua has made it clear that he will not resign, even as a court declined to issue an interim order halting the advancement of an impeachment motion against him.
Speaking on Monday, September 30, to Kalenjin journalists, Gachagua expressed his frustration, accusing Rift Valley MPs within the Kenya Kwanza coalition of being at the forefront of efforts to oust him. He did not hold back, asserting that his removal would only solidify support from his political base in Mt Kenya.
“If anyone thinks they can intimidate me into resigning, they should forget it. The people of Mt Kenya are just waiting to see me removed,” Gachagua said defiantly.
His statement was met with a sharp response from Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, who issued a warning to Gachagua, reminding him that his time in office might be running out.
“After all is said and done, there are just seven days to go. There’s no greater cause than a united Kenya. Stop the tribalism and don’t try to isolate the Agikuyu from the rest of Kenyans for your interests,” Sudi fired back.
Sudi’s comments resonated with some Kenyans, who took to social media to express their thoughts. Simon Karani dismissed the notion that Gachagua was being isolated, stating, “We are not complaining. We are not being isolated. Gachagua is just a voice which we didn’t have after silencing Uhuru.”
However, not everyone was on Sudi’s side. Gerald Kipkoech warned against escalating tensions, saying, “Please Sudi, we want peace in Kenya. Now you want to cause violence of deceitfulness and hatred because you’ve been corrupt all along and got by Kenyans.”
The impeachment motion has triggered wider political debates, with some calling for a more comprehensive government overhaul. Albert Kibet Bitok remarked, “If DP must go home, then the whole government should be dissolved, and we start fresh.”
As the political drama unfolds, all eyes will be on Gachagua and whether the seven-day timeline Sudi mentioned will prove to be a pivotal moment in Kenya’s political landscape.
