Govt Grants Kenyans Free Access to All National Parks on Saturday
In an exciting announcement, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano revealed that the Kenyan government is granting free access to all national parks managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) from Saturday, September 28, for a full week.
This initiative, part of the World Tourism Day celebrations, is designed to encourage Kenyans to explore and experience the rich biodiversity and stunning landscapes that the nation’s parks have to offer.
“This gesture is aimed at encouraging Kenyans to visit and appreciate the rich wildlife and natural resources that our country has to offer,” Miano stated during a press briefing. With the entrance fees waived, the government hopes to entice more locals to embark on adventures within these natural sanctuaries.
Kenya is renowned for its diverse wildlife, which includes the Big Five—lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards, and rhinoceroses—alongside countless other species. These parks not only serve as a habitat for wildlife but are also essential for conservation efforts and the tourism industry.
Miano emphasized the importance of these resources in supporting Kenya’s economy. “We want Kenyans to not only celebrate our wildlife but also understand the role they play in boosting our economy and sustaining livelihoods,” she added.
The initiative is also a call to action for Kenyans to take pride in their heritage and the environment. By allowing free entry, the government is promoting domestic tourism, which is critical for local economies and communities surrounding these parks. Miano encouraged citizens to seize this opportunity: “Visit the parks, reconnect with nature, and share in the pride of being part of a country known for its world-renowned wildlife.”
As the country prepares for this week of free park access, many Kenyans are eagerly planning visits to experience the beauty of their national parks. With stunning scenery, rich wildlife, and an opportunity to engage with nature, the week promises to be a celebration of Kenya’s natural treasures.
The government hopes this initiative will foster a culture of conservation and inspire a new generation to cherish and protect the country’s invaluable wildlife and natural resources for years to come.
