5 Kenya’s Top Political Figures Rank Among Africa’s Most Talked-About Personalities in 2024
President William Ruto’s popularity has grown significantly in Kenya and across Africa in 2024. According to a ranking by Top Charts Africa, he is among the top five most talked-about personalities on the continent this year.
The list placed Ruto in second position, just behind Nigerian music superstar Wizkid, whose real name is Ayo Balogun. This makes Ruto the most discussed African political leader in 2024.
Another Kenyan political figure, Raila Odinga, also made it to the list, ranking fifth. Raila’s widespread attention may be linked to his candidacy for the African Union Commission (AUC) chair. The outgoing leader of the ODM party has been visiting various African nations and participating in forums to gather support for the election set for February 2025.
Interestingly, all five Kenyans on the list are political figures. Rigathi Gachagua, Ruto’s former deputy who turned into a rival, secured the 12th spot. His impeachment, which drew massive attention and even international headlines, is likely a major reason for his inclusion. Despite being ousted, Gachagua remains a vocal critic of Ruto and recently raised concerns about the growing cases of abductions in Kenya.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta ranked 14th, while Embakasi East MP Babu Owino unexpectedly made the list in 27th place.
The Top Charts Africa team explained that the ranking was based on data from social media platforms and Google Analytics. They analyzed trends between January and November 2024 to compile the list.
“The 30 Most Talked-About Africans of 2024 highlights individuals who dominated online conversations during the year,” the publication stated.
This is not the first time Ruto has received international recognition. In November 2024, reports revealed he is among the highest-paid presidents globally, considering his country’s economic status.
